US investigates Israel use of US arms

The Reagan administration is investigating whether Israel violated US law by using American-supplied arms in its invasion of Lebanon, Defense Secretary Caspar W. Weinberger says.

He says the US has a law which says that weapons supplied by the United States should only be used in self-defense. If it were found that Israel had violated the law, US aid could be cut off. Investigations of past Israeli military actions in Lebanon have not reached that conclusion.
