Salvadoran rebels claim capture of top officials

The rebel radio Venceremos has claimed that guerrillas captured the country's deputy defense minister, Col. Francisco Adolfo Castillo, who had earlier been reported killed in a helicopter crash in northeastern El Salvador. The broadcast gave no indication of what the rebels planned to do with Castillo.

Armed forces officials were unavailable for comment.
