One angry Iranian Ayatollah may slam the door on diplomats bound for Baghdad for a meeting of nonaligned nations.

The movement was to hold a summit in the Iraqi capital in September. But Iran has told top diplomats from countries planning to attend that it will ''make sure'' they don't meet in Baghdad. Iraq says Iran's threats are ''no cause for alarm.'' But diplomats privately say the Baghdad meeting will be canceled: Nonaligned leaders may ask to postpone the gathering two weeks before it meets; then India would host a meeting in the spring.

Ayatollah Khomeini ''wants to topple (Iraq President Saddam) Hussein,'' says one diplomat, but he ''knows that if the summit were to take place in Baghdad, it would bolster Hussein's popularity.''
