Vietnamese forces attack Kampuchean rebel base

July 12, 1982

Vietnamese-backed forces attacked a Kampuchean rebel stronghold Saturday in a direct challenge to Prince Norodom Sihanouk's attempts to set up an anti-Hanoi government in Kampuchea (Cambodia), military sources reported.

The attack was the second in two days on sites being considered as the capital for a rebel government formed by a coalition of Khmer Rouge and noncommunist guerrillas.
