NTSB needs funds to complete air crash probe

Financial problems are straining the resources of the National Transportation Safety Board, the specialized agency charged with investigating aviation accidents and recommending safety improvements, writes Monitor correspondent Lucia Mouat.
Unless the NTSB gets a requested $585,000 supplemental appropriation this year, its projects, including public hearings on the July 9 Pan American crash over Kenner, La., and a partially completed study of the air traffic controller system will be delayed until the new fiscal year October 1.
