Westinghouse agreement averts strike on pensions

July 27, 1982

Negotiators for Westinghouse Electric Corporation and three unions reached a tentative contract agreement half an hour before a threatened midnight strike by 30,000 blue-collar employees nationwide.

The settlement announced just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday averted a walkout by workers disgruntled with a company requirement that they contribute to their pension program. They struck over the same issue three years ago.
