August cool
September 1, 1982
What ever happened to August?
With our usual parochial disclaimer for talking about the local weather, there must be some sort of universal portent in months not acting the way they're supposed to act. After years of remembering the heavy hot days of August, suddenly we remember the light cool days of August. Not to mention those New England skiers on August snow.
The result was a summer even shorter than usual. It ran out when the sweater went on.
Ah, but the sleeping was marvelous, as more than one person told us. Nothing is as fresh as fresh air in August. At least the way August used to be. If every August should breeze away like the last one, we can only expect dog days in December.
