Sex-discrimination ruling accepted by Reagan team

The Reagan administration has decided to obey a federal judge's ruling that would limit government power to combat sex discrimination in colleges and schools, the Justice Department said.

Assistant Attorney General William Reynolds said the Justice Department and Department of Education made the decision, based on review of a case involving enforcement of Title IX of the Civil Rights Act. At issue is a ruling by a US District Court in Virginia that is expected to have an impact on college athletics, where there are wide differences in spending for men's and women's sports.
