First Reagan try to end abortion filibuster fails

The Senate refused Thursday, despite the personal pleadings of President Reagan, to crack a filibuster that has prevented a vote on sweeping anti-abortion legislation.
The Senate, as expected, fell short on the first attempt to choke off the talkathon. Mr. Reagan sent a letter to nine undecided and unidentified senators Wednesday, urging them to help end the filibuster.
