US chopper explodes en route to air show

A US military Chinook helicopter disintegrated in the air and crashed on a highway. Mannheim authorities said at least 44 people on board were killed, including sports parachutists from the United States, Britain, France, and West Germany.

The CH-47 helicopter was en route to an international air show in Mannheim.
