Marcos leaves for US visit amid flurry of protests

President Ferdinand Marcos Tuesday left on a five-day state visit to the United States as 3,000 demonstrators protested the trip.

A ''national prayer rally'' was held here to protest the visit and alleged human-rights violations in the Philippines.

Other sorts of protests surfaced in the US. Massachusetts Sen. Edward M.Kennedy and four other Democratic senators wrote President Reagan a letter expressing concern that the Marcos visit would be interpreted as a sign the administration ''condones the repression of the Marcos government. And the Coalition Against the Marcos Dictatorship, Marcos political foes in the United States, filed suit in US federal court accusing the Philippine and US governments of complicity in alleged murders of two of their group members in Seattle last year.
