Bremen, West Germany
Dockers Wednesday began loading a ship here with US-licenesed turbines for the controversial Siberian gas pipeline - the first time a West German company has defied US sanctions.
A spokesman for the Transnordic shipping line said the shipment, scheduled to leave Wednesday or Thursday, is bound for the Soviet Baltic port of Klaipeda. Diplomatic sources said the shipment will immediately trigger American sanctions on the turbine manufacturers AEG Kanis in line with similar steps taken against French, British and Italian firms.
