At least 51 people were killed in some of the worst clashes in months between communist rebels and government soldiers, a military spokesman said.
Between Saturday and Wednesday, 27 government soldiers, 13 civilians, and 11 rebels were killed in fighting throughout the country, the military spokesman said.
President Ferdinand Marcos is scheduled to return today (Sept. 30) from a two-week trip to the United States, which he warned would coincide with a nationwide terror campaign by ''subversive elements.''
