Israeli 'mini cabinet' kept eye on Sharon, reportedly

Four Israeli Cabinet ministers formed a secret committee to keep a check on Defense Minister Ariel Sharon during the invasion of Lebanon, devising their own intelligence-gathering system because they did not trust Sharon.

Israel Radio quoted an unnamed cabinet minister as saying ''. . .Sharon fought the war on two fronts: against them and against us.'' According to the report, the ministers five times successfully blocked Sharon's request for approval to invade West Beirut. On the sixth time, Sharon got the go-ahead and the Israeli army moved into west Beirut.
