Argentina granted debate on Falklands at the UN
November 3, 1982
United Nations, N.Y.
The UN General Assembly granted Argentina's request for a three-day debate on the Falkland Islands. Argentina had the backing of 19 other Latin American states in its request for a debate.
Britain, which recaptured the islands at a cost of $2.75 billion after Argentina invaded them in April, opposes any debate or resolution asking for negotiations on the question of who should control the Falklands.
