Texaco announced the most westerly discovery of oil yet in the Point Arguello field off southern California, which is believed to be the biggest oil find since Alaska's Prudhoe Bay in 1968. Texaco said oil flowed from the well at a rate of up to 1,900 barrels a day. Production was expected to start late 1985.
