A Polish militiaman riding as a guard on a domestic Polish flight hijacked the aircraft to West Berlin. He surrendered to US authorities at Tempelhof military air base, a US Army spokesman said. Afterward, the Americans turned the hijacker over to West Berlin police.
The man told US officials he had boarded the plane, a Wroclaw-to-Warsaw flight of the state airline LOT, just before takeoff, as an extra security guard. None of the plane's 31 passengers, four crew, and three guards were injured. Four of the passengers in the hijacked plane decided to stay in the West, West Berlin police said.
