More spending for research in 1983

The Battelle Institute predicts that spending on research and development in 1983 in the US will reach $83.6 billion, up $6.3 billion or 8.2 percent from estimated expenditures this year.
With inflation running at an expected 4.5 percent next year, the real increase in R&D spending should amount to 3.5 percent, the research institute's Columbus division figures.
