Hussein visit will help get PLO behind peace talks

Reagan administration officials say King Hussein believes his White House talks will aid his efforts to obtain Palestinian backing for Jordan's participation in Mideast peace talks.

But the King told President Reagan in a two-hour meeting that Palestinians regard Israel's continued settlements of the West bank ''irrefutable evidence'' that Israel would not enter into such talks in good faith. Mr. Reagan continued his efforts to get the King involved in the talks, but the monarch was unable to make that commitment at this time. A second Reagan-Hussein meeting was scheduled for today (Dec. 23). Wednesday, Hussein met with the military joint chiefs of staff to discuss new arms sales to Jordan.
