Concorde jet crosses Atlantic in record time

Concorde, the British-French supersonic jet, has set a new record for the transatlantic crossing, British Airways reported. An airline spokesman said the crossing from New York to London was completed in two hours and 57 minutes, ''slightly more than two minutes faster than the previous record.'' Britain and France agreed in 1962 to jointly design and produce the Concorde. The Concorde began commercial service for their national airlines in 1976.
