The government is preparing a rule requiring federally funded clinics to tell parents when girls under 18 get birth control prescriptions. Planned Parenthood is filing suit to stop the regulation.
Health and Human Services Secretary Richard Schweiker forwarded a proposed final rule to the Office of Management and Budget, which must approve it before publication in the Federal Register. The rule would take effect 30 days after publication.
In a separate report, a five-day board of inquiry is being held on the third attempt in a decade by the Upjohn Company to obtain government approval to market an injectable contraceptive.
