January 19, 1983
Washington
Philip Johnson, chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), resigned his post to resume a career in the private sector. In a letter to President Reagan, Mr. Johnson described his CFTC tenure as one of the ''happiest and most challenging'' periods of his career. His resignation will take effect May 1, 1983, or as soon as the President names a successor.
