Three Mile Island suit resolved out of court
January 26, 1983
New York
The operators of the Three Mile Island nuclear plant and the maker of the facility's damaged reactor agreed to settle a $4 billion lawsuit stemming from the nation's worst nuclear accident.
Under the agreement, Babcock & Wilcox Company, the reactor's manufacturer, will provide General Public Utilities Corporation rebates of up to $37 million for service and equipment purchased over a 10-year period. General Public Utilities said it will apply the proceeds to the decontamination and cleanup of the reactor damaged in the March 28, 1979, accident.
