Factory-order rise is attributed to military

Factory orders rose 4.8 percent in December, the largest monthly gain in 2 1/ 2 years, the Commerce Department reported. But without military orders, the gain would have been turned into a slight decline of 0.1 percent. The department also said spending on new construction projects edged up 1.4 percent in December.
