Paraguayans set to return President to office

February 7, 1983

Paraguayans voted Sunday in general elections which seemed certain to return President Alfredo Stroessner to a seventh term in office. Stroessner's two opponents in the vote were Liberal Fulvio Hugo Celauro and Radical Liberal Enzo Doldan. Four other minority parties, including the Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA), boycotted the election.

Local political sources believe Stroessner's ruling Colorado Party will increase its 89 percent majority in the last elections in 1978 to 94 percent.
