A new president for the USSR? The spring session of the Supreme Soviet, or parliament, is currently expected to designate a president. This would fill a traditionally ceremonial post left vacant by Leonid Brezhnev's passing last year. Soviet officials deny Western news reports of an imminent meeting to make such changes.
