White House is rewriting handicapped-infant rule

The White House reportedly is rewriting its handicapped-infant rule, because of a court order blocking the controversial regulation. In an interview with Knight News Service, White House counselor Edwin Meese said the government's rewritten version would make moot a US district-court ruling blocking the administration's regulation. The White House had barred hospitals from stopping the feeding or care of handicapped newborns. Hospitals and others have challenged the White House rule, charging that it represented government interference in matters best left to parental decision.
