MX defeat would be dire, Reagan warns Congress

President Reagan warned Congress that failure to approve deployment of the MX missile would do more damage to national security than any foreign power could inflict.
Speaking at a memorial dinner for conservative Republican Rep. John Ashbrook of Ohio, he said the Soviet Union had improved, developed, and deployed more than a dozen new intercontinental ballistic missile systems while the US was still only thinking about one, much smaller system.
