Opposition to Poland's Communist government has taken on a new dimension, and the results of Lech Walesa's meeting with union officials last week has become clear.
The former Solidarity leader and representatives of three other major union groups banned under martial law took an unprecedented joint stand, saying that union pluralism was essential if Poland was to emerge from its crisis. In a letter to the Sejm (parliament), the officials also called for release of those imprisoned for union activities or protests.
