Salvadorean troops begin political-style campaign

Crack Salvadoran government troops launched an antiguerrilla campaign that is more political than military, the defense minister said. Gen. Carlos Eugenio Vides Casanova told Reuters the troops have embarked on a project to supply food, medicine, and moral support to the people of Morazan Province - a major rebel stronghold. Military sources said the operation began earlier this month.
