Israeli daily lists 3 plans for Lebanon withdrawal

June 14, 1983

The Israeli Army is considering three contingency plans for limited withdrawals in Lebanon to reduce mounting casualties. Citing military sources, the Ha'aretz newspaper listed these withdrawal options:

* A minimal withdrawal in the Shouf mountains, mainly from the Aley region.

* A pullback to the Awali river, 50 miles north of the Israeli border.

* A withdrawal to the Zahrani River, 30 miles north of the border.

In Beirut, the Lebanese Parliament began debating the government's troop withdrawal agreement with Israel in a move toward ratification of the accord.
