Republic Airlines prepares for strike by mechanics

Republic Airlines says it is prepared for a strike at midnight tonight (June 14) by more than 2,500 mechanics, cleaners, and stock clerks, who overwhelmingly rejected the company's latest contract offer.
Wages, pensions, and insurance contributions are among the unresolved issues. Republic, the nation's fifth-largest passenger carrier, said it would operate a majority of its flights throughout its nationwide route system if the mechanics strike. No new talks were scheduled.
