US Green Berets build training base in Honduras

More than 100 Green Berets began constructing a 200-acre military base to train Salvadorean troops in Honduras by the end of the month. The military base is controversial because it is seen as a major escalation of the Reagan administration's military commitment in Central America. There were only 60 American advisers in Honduras, so the new force doubles the US presence in the strategic country.

In related news, the Salvadorean Army said Tuesday it had swept leftist guerrillas out of six villages around San Vicente, freeing the area for a US-financed civic-action program designed to win the ''hearts and minds'' of the people.
