Palestinian-rights panel will not meet in Paris

The French government has managed to get rid of a political ''hot potato.'' The UN Committee for the Rights of the Palestinian People agreed to move its August conference to Geneva. It was to be held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, reports Monitor special correspondent Louis Wiznitzer.

With strong pressure from the Jewish lobby and fear of possible terrorism at the conference, the French government persuaded the Palestine Liberation Organization to allow the change in site. As a concession, the French government promised to participate. Had it been held in Paris, France would not have attended.
