Leftist guerrillas from the Popular Liberation Forces claimed responsibility for Monday's grenade attack near the US Embassy in San Salvador. They said they did it to teach the Americans a lesson. The claim came shortly after Rene Ibarrios Amaya, an official of the right-wing Arena party, was shot dead by an unidentified gunman.
