Reagan seeks pay raise for US civilian employees

President Reagan Wednesday proposed civilian employees of the federal government be given a 3.5 percent pay increase on Jan. 1. The increase for 1.4 million federal employees will cost the government about $1 billion in fiscal year 1984, which begins Oct. 1.
Previously the President recommended no pay increase for federal employees until October 1984.
