Moderate Palestine view issued by Arab froup
September 8, 1983
Geneva
The Arab group at the controversial Geneva conference on Palestine issued a moderate final declaration, confounding Israeli predictions that the meeting would only reflect extremist views.
Rejecting resolutions from Syria, the group drafted a declaration implicitly recognizing Israel's right to exist. It called for the establishment of a Palestinian state but did not contain a clause from the declaration of last September's Arab summit meeting in Fez insisting that the proposed state should have Jerusalem as its capital.
