St. Louis teachers strike, but attendance is high

City schoolteachers went on strike Wednesday in a pay dispute, but officials said supervisory personnel, substitute teachers, and volunteers kept classroom attendance near normal. In Michigan and Rhode Island, teachers walked picket lines, extending summer vacation for nearly 100,000 youngsters.
