US says 2 Soviets ousted and protests similar action

Two Soviet military attaches at the Soviet Union's Embassy in Washington were ordered to leave the United States in mid-August for engaging in espionage, the State Department revealed Monday.

Word of the expulsions came when the State Department said it had ''vigorously protested'' the physical mistreatment of an American diplomat and his wife ordered out of the Soviet Union for alleged espionage. The official Tass news agency said Vice-Consul Lon David Augustenborg and his wife, Denise, were caught spying Sunday in the Leningrad region.
