September's song

September 15, 1983

I yearn for autumn, for summer seems too long; All through the daisy day and jasmine night, Though August sings, I hear September's song. When morning glories, like pale brides, throng The roadside fields with fluttering veils of white, I yearn for autumn, for summer seems too long. And as the evening breezes, blowing strong, Waft the sound of a cricket's noisy rite, Though August sings, I hear September's song. Although the stars of August, glowing strong, Streak the skies with filaments of light, I yearn for autumn, for summer seems too long. The sea, in placid lakelike languor's wrong; To me, its acid rakelike anger's right. Though August sings, I hear September's song. September is a seasonal dipthong, When garish green glides into gold delight. I yearn for autumn, for summer seems too long; Though August sings, I hear September's song.
