Japan to get jet items retrieved by Soviets
September 22, 1983
Japan announced Wednesday it will pick up documents and objects retrieved from the Sea of Japan by Soviet ships, which are racing US vessels to locate key wreckage of the downed Korean jetliner. The Soviet offer to turn over the wreckage called for a six-member team to take over the Soviet objects Sunday at Nevelsk, a major fishing port on Sakhalin Island, the officials said. Japanese officials said no bodies would be returned.
