Shamir gets go-ahead for an Israeli Cabinet
Yitzhak Shamir, Israel's prime minister-designate, advised the Knesset Wednesday he has formed a new government and will submit it to parliament Monday for a vote of confidence. The announcement followed a decision by six coalition deputies to drop their demand for a national-unity government, saying Mr. Shamir had given the Labor Party ample opportunity to join a coalition.
Shamir is expected to win enough support in parliament to form a majority government he vowed would maintain the hard-line policies of his predecessor, Menachem Begin.
