Congresswoman creates Ed Meese Hunger Fund
Rep. Barbara Boxer (D) of California is soliciting donations for an Ed Meese Hunger Fund, named after the presidential adviser who expressed skepticism about whether there is a hunger problem in America.
The donations will go to St. Anthony's Dining Room in downtown San Francisco, which feeds the poor. Mrs. Boxer, a member of the House Select Committee on Children, Youth, and Families, said she thought up the idea and raised $450 in the fund's first day. ''I hope more people will send their money in,'' she said. ''The comments Mr. Meese made were so negative and so much against the American spirit.''
