A big stew over Big Macs seeking outlets in Taiwan

A member of parliament has urged the government to ban the opening of McDonald's restaurants in Taiwan to protect the local food industry. Hsiao Jui-cheng, who represents farmers in the legislature, says the chain would seriously threaten the local fast-food industry.

A Taiwan company plans to open Taipei's first McDonald's restaurant in January and 120 more throughout the island in the next 10 years.
