Trudeau asks NATO to be upbeat in troop-cut talks
Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau urged NATO Thursday to take a more positive approach when the long-running East-West conference in Vienna on limiting conventional forces in central Europe resumes in March.
Mr. Trudeau, speaking during a tour of three Warsaw Pact states to push his one-man world peace mission, said the West should respond positively to Warsaw Pact proposals offered last July.
After a 21/2-hour meeting with Trudeau on Wednesday, Prime Minister Lubomir Strougal offered his full support for the Canadian leader's peace initiative. Trudeau is due to visit East Germany and Romania next week.
