No further concessions to opposition, Marcos says

The major Philippine opposition parties have given President Ferdinand Marcos until Tuesday - exactly three months before the May 14 parliamentary elections - to relinquish his authoritarian powers or face a total boycott of the balloting.

But Marcos ruled out further concessions to his opponents, saying Saturday that his supporters fear he is ''giving away the store.'' Only about a dozen of the 200 National Assembly seats are currently held by the opposition.

Marcos' wife Imelda, a Cabinet member and governor of Metro Manila, hinted to reporters that she may reconsider her decision not to run for a seat in the parliamentary election in order to obey ''the will of the people.''
