Reagan seen loath to seek ban on antisatellite arms

President Reagan is unlikely to seek to negotiate a comprehensive ban on antisatellite weapons with the Soviet Union, the Washington Post reported Monday.

The newspaper quoted unnamed administration officials as saying an interagency study had concluded it would be impossible to verify any such agreement.

The Air Force tested its first antisatellite weapon last month in California by firing a six-meter (20-foot) missile mounted under the fuselage of an F-15.

Some arms control analysts have warned the United States against going ahead with its testing lest it trigger an antisatellite race.
