GM to call 7,200 workers back to work at 4 plants

General Motors said Monday about 7,200 laid-off workers would be called back to work to add second shifts at two of its assembly plants and increase production at two others.

GM president F. James McDonald said 2,900 workers would be reemployed to manufacture cars and trucks, while the other 4,300 would be assigned to work at component operations that serve the assembly plants.

The plant, closed since September, 1982, is scheduled to resume first-shift operations April 2, GM announced previously.
