Two Soviet warships arrive in Caribbean

The Pentagon said Tuesday a Soviet helicopter carrier and a guided-missile destroyer have arrived in the Caribbean, and it was watching their movements closely.

Pentagon officials identified the carrier as the Leningrad and the destroyer the Udaloy. The officials said the Leningrad is the largest Soviet naval warship to visit the Caribbean.

''We consider it to be a major movement, and it is one we will watch very closely,'' Pentagon spokesman Michael Burch said.
