Olympic torch flickers over sponsorship impasse
Los Angeles Olympic officials insist they will continue to accept sponsorships for their controversial Olympic torch relay until April 10. The Greek Olympic Committee said Tuesday it had reached a compromise with US organizers over the Olympic flame issue. In Athens, Nikos Filaretos, general secretary of the Greek Olympic Committee, said the Los Angeles organizers had agreed not to accept any more charitable contributions. In return, the Greek Olympic Committee would have dropped an earlier threat not to cooperate with the lighting of the flame in ancient Olympia, scheduled for early May.
